Florida: Final Public Meeting Underway, Part 2

A speaker now is making a pitch that evolution degrades self-worth of children, therefore it shouldn’t be taught as given in the standards.

That’s 6-1.

Next.. Fossil records not complete, no half-man, half-ape. Past teaching of things that weren’t right. Teaching kids that they are due to just chance. 2nd law objections, energy would have run out years ago. The worldview that created this nation… cites declaration of independence. Why are we not saying that evolution is a theory, as ID is a theory?

That’s 7-1.

FL BOE is looking at outside influences like Singapore and France, and not listening to Florida citizens. Teach evolution and antievolution, too. One-sided! Science changes and ideas are discredited. Newton example; if no challenges allowed, progress would have been delayed. [So challenges in K-12 inspired Einstein? Get those historians on the line! — WRE] Gould misquote. Deceptive…. give balanced treatment! [Mclean, Edwards redux… -WRE]

That’s 8-1.

Evolution theory. Quotes DI CRSC “Dissent from Darwin” list. [I wonder if anyone will bring up Project Steve. — WRE] Teach as theory, not fact.

That’s 9-1.

Science teacher. Objects to comparison to other countries. Says science community hasn’t substantiated evolution. Evolution, IDC, panspermia! Should all be discussed.

That’s 10-1.

I tuned in just in time to hear “Sternberg!!!!one!!”

Now Robert Gentry is giving his little frantic speech of paranoia. He’s done now.

Now a fella is telling the board to let the Scientists decide what is taught in Science class. “Let them do their job.”

Score one for the good guys.
