I just had to rip out the Sitemeter visit counter from my sidebar. Sitemeter is apparently having difficulties, and for some reason there is no graceful failure in Internet Explorer; IE gets to the Sitemeter code and pops up a notice that it cannot load the page. Fortunately, I have Firefox everywhere plus Safari on the Mac, so I could get to the WordPress theme editor and remove it.
I hope that things improve shortly. I don’t know exactly how to apportion the blame, but the fact that only IE seems susceptible to failure on page loading says to me that there is some portion of responsibility that they should take.
Update: Sitemeter says that they have fixed the IE incompatibility issue, so I’ve restored the Sitemeter counter here.
I still think that scripts should fail gracefully…
