Harry Potter Movie
Diane and I went out to see the late showing of the new Harry Potter movie Friday night. We had to figure out where the theater was while we were cutting the show time closely. I sent Diane ahead while I found a parking space, but all turned out well and I made it in in time to see the start of the film. So ads in movie houses reward procrastination.
And the film itself made a nice bit of entertainment. It seems that the direction in this outing has gone in the direction of more straightforward story-telling and less gratuitous eye-candy. Oh, sure, there is eye-candy, but it seems to me that it is deployed more strategically in service of the story in this film than in some of the previous outings. Harry Potter movies are not standalone entertainment, though; you really need to have read the book recently. It essentially is a sequence of animated illustrations to accompany the reader’s experience. Otherwise, the plot would be exceedingly difficult to discern from the few clues given. This is, I think, necessary in a feature-length film. In order to present Rowling’s story in sufficient detail for those unfamiliar with the particular book would require treatment at the length of a mini-series instead.
One nice thing was that Diane and I were able to stay snuggled next to each other through the whole movie. I don’t think that I’ve been to a theater in the past 22 years where I haven’t had to excuse myself for a personal intermission/trip to the men’s room, so this is a welcome change. Ulcerative colitis is quite disruptive of some of the most mundane social rituals. My regards to my surgeon.
I think Charlize Theron is too old and too pretty to play Merope – I thought she was 14, 15, 16? And not so pretty, remember she couldn’t ‘woo’ Tom Riddle. I think they need someone really unique to play her, and I think she needs to be unknown so that the power of the scene will come across without poeple being like ‘Oh yeah, look at her, she was good in…’ (hint hint open casting call PLEASE)
What about Romilda Vane? I really hope she’s not cut from the film as although I guess from what we know she’s not exactly essential to the plot she does add a bit of humour and I can’t see how else they would portray the poisoning of Ron well. (that sentence DOES make sense, I promise). I think that if they do include her in HBP they should open cast for her too, although I’m probably biased wink.gif
Despite of my dreams I am, of course, open to suggestions of people to play this part…

Hi guys, I’m sorry to burst your bubble but there ARE NO Romilda Vane auditions. She’s too small a part to have a huge audition for her, she may not even BE in the film. I’m checked it out and Warner Bros has made it clear that they only want Lavendar Brown and young Tom Riddle. The auditions for those are on July 1st [check google for it] oh, you have to be either British or Irish to enter and you have to be aged between 15-18.You have to bring your passport along for proof of age and nationality. As for Romilda, I;m sorry but I think they are only going through agents.They may even get a daughter of a producer or something to do it-that’s what they did for Pansy Parkinson. And you have to remember that this is a long film and they can’t waste time on Romilda or that would mean they would have to cut out other important scenes.I know how it feels guys, I really want to be Romilda too but that’s Showbiz for you!

Jennifer Smith did play Lavender-yes-but she is beiong recast. Warner Bros put up applications on the web-it’s in the newpapers-on the new websites- Lavender IS being recast. No offenc, but I think it’s because they think that Jennifer isn’t pretty enough. Check out the picture on Wikipedia and she isn’t much like the Lavender I imgined. So, go along to the auditions and try your luck!

the date and location of romilda auditions hasn’t been said yet but im guessing it will be soon. personally, im going to send a letter to the casting director asking for an audition :)

Hello-I have the answer to ALL your problems!
1-Harry Potter auditions are now over for the part of Lavender Brown and the studios DO NOT want letter into them telling them stories of how you missed the audition and you really want the part because they are NOT interested.
2-You CANNONT audition to an extra! You have to join the agency that supplies extras for the films and you have to pay for that and I think it’s something like Springboard-google it. The studios DO NOT want letters into them asking to be an extra because they DON’T DEAL with extras.
3-Tom Riddle auditions are on July 7th in the same place and they are looking forward to seeing agood turn out.
4-Romilda Vane is an extreamly small part and the studios have a few people in mind and they DO NOT want letters anymore accept from agents or Drama Schools. [If you go to a drama school you can ask them to repersent you as an agent and they can send a letter with your recommendations.]
5- The Romilda Vane auditions are in August.
6- There are NO OTHER parts needed for girls [for boys- Cormac McLaggan is still needed.] So PLEASE don’t send long letters to the studios begging to an extra or any other part because they aren’t interested.
I know this because I have a lot of contacts in the studios and I am trying to spread the word. [I do not work for the stuidos or have anything to do with them but I just have information.]

I have an idea about how they will cut Romilda out of the movie and i think its likely that they will cut her out using this way. Im not gonna post it in case someone from the movie sees it and then uses it coz im a massive HP fan and i really wanna be romilda. I could play her really well and im pretty sure i know what shes like as a person and how 2 portray that on screen. Hello-that rumour about Pansy being recast isn’t ture because I’ve seen an interview with Genievive Gaunt and she says that she really wants to keep playing Pansy and unless she leaves they won’t recast because she’s actually perfect for the role.
People, people-stop saying ‘I want so badly to be in a HP movie’ because honestly-the people who do get through don’t get to do very much. Luna only had about 6 lines to say and Cho had about 4 [but she did kiss Daniel though]. Ron said about 7 lines as well and basically there’s so many characters in the film that they don’t get nearly enough lines to say.
And why on earth do you want to be cooped up in a hot and dark set for four hours at a time and then sometimes have to go at night and do the same scene over and over again. Daniel Radcliff even said he really wants to finish Harry Potter quickly because he doesn’t like it that much anymore and guys it’s BORING.
If you really want to be in the film become an extra. That’s all you can do.
Daniel ought to be having the time of his life, literally. The history of acting shows that there are loads of examples of actors who, having landed an incredibly popular role, decided that it was their own personality, charisma, whatever, that brought the audiences in. They become jaded with playing the role, decide they need to “grow”, to avoid being “typecast”, etc. Many who either abandon a character in mid-series or who expect that their services will continue to be in unabated demand post-series come to a realization that, no, the public was not after all so interested in their person, but rather in the character. Perhaps this is not one of those cases, and Daniel will proceed to tear up screens as a leading man for decades to come. For every Denzel Washington who comes along, though, there are probably dozens of actors who had one great gig and were unable to parlay that into anything of particular note thereafter.
The point about acting being a demanding profession with lots of dull moments is well taken, though. The glamorous aspects are well-separated from the day-to-day realities of film production.
hmm it would be interesting to audition for lavender brown or romilda vane…does anyone know what ethnicity either of these girls are?

i av just watched an interview with daniel and he says he enjoys being in harry potter and is glad that he was able to sign up to finish them off. Also he says he will be sad when it is finished as he has had fum making the films.
I’m glad to hear that the other report of Daniel being in malaise about the role apparently was mistaken. I think that good scripts for the final two films should give him plenty of scope to stretch as an actor; it would be a shame if he were sleepwalking through them.
I’m looking forward especially to the final film. I think that Rowling came through with a fitting finale to the book series, and there is great potential there for the film adaptation.

callam- it depends how old u r coz mclaggen is 1 yr older than harry so 2 be him u would probs hav 2 look older than dan radcliffe theres blaise zabini in harrys year in slytherin the 2 new beaters coote and peakes who r third yr i think maybe morfin guant but agen ud hav 2 be quite old 2 do tht i think marcus belby cant remember how old he is i always wondered if they were goin 2 do the scene in the orphanage coz if they r theyre gonna need an 11 yr old tom riddle anyway hope tht helped u a bit but jus so u no i hav no idea where the auditons r or if theyre gonna happen and even if they need all of these characters

Yet, another girl badly wanting to play Romilda Vane. I’ve been keeping close watch on the net for nearly two months now for any information on Romilda Vane and there seem to be so many different opinions. Some people think they wont be casting her, some people think she’ll be cut out, while others (like me) are still hoping the studio will do an open casting call.
Here’s the information I have:
1) Romilda Vane auditions will most likely be in August and in London or Cambridge.
2) They will most probably be similar to the Luna/Riddle/Lavender auditions in protocol etc.
3) If they don’t have auditions, but keep her in the film, they will most likely use agents or drama schools to find someone to play the part.
4) Vane is quite a small part but she is important to the plot in HBP and is an entertaining character a lot of fans will miss, but we all have to accept the fact that she might just disappear.
If I find out any more information (I hope she has a return in DH, but I haven’t finished reading, so I don’t know), I will let you know.
Good luck to everyone who auditions (if the time happens), and I hope they don’t cut her out and do have auditions. I WILL BE THERE IF THEY DO. Good luck and don’t get too down-heartened. Acting is a tough business, and I personally don’t want to do it as a career. Just enjoy the books and films because they are coming to an end.
